Social networking is fast becoming an essential for some aspects of online business. Facebook, Twitter, Hi5, MySpace and YouTube are all becoming useful tools for building focused traffic and exploring new customer profiles.

The return on investment in terms of traffic will depend on the kind of product or service on offer but the ease of updating and adding content suits those wanting some degree of control or a more personal relationship with current or potential customers.

Case Study - Will it Blend? Company: Blendtec
tsm
This is an example of a satellite site promoting a main brand. The primary image and customer profile aren't compromised as a second (and maybe new) customer profile becomes brand aware via something a little more whacky.

This is probably one of the more interesting ad campaigns, totally suited to the internet and makes full use of social networking and other third party sites.

Image Copyright Blendtec The thirty-second ads are from Blendtec who manufacture a line of food blenders. Not very interesting so far you might think. Introduce the concept that almost anything can be blended and have the super-cool Tom Dickson present the results and you have compulsive viewing.

Items given the Will it Blend? test include golf balls, Bic lighters, iPods, a garden rake and spam - still in the can. Once the smoke clears a grinning Tom looks genuinely pleased about the results as goes on to warn us with the friendly but firm words 'Don't try this at home'...

Now...where's that blender...
